When we look at Jesus and the wondrous things we see Him associated with, it is easy to view Him as a type of superhero.  As we get to know Jesus better we need to come to understand His true nature as scripture describes and not as we have come to see Him in our mind.  Without losing sight of the fact that Jesus was the “only begotten son of the Father,” let’s look deeper at the “the Son of Man.”

The writer of Hebrews tells us that “He took not on Him the nature of angels, but rather the seed of Abraham” (KJV) in chapter 2 verse 16.  Verse 17 goes on to say that He had to be made like His brethren (that’s us!) in all things.  That means He was just like you and me.  As near as I can tell I do not have the ability to feed thousands of people with a couple of fish and a few loaves of bread.  Neither do have the ability to speak away a person’s affliction of sickness, paralysis or even death.

Now I must think to myself, if the Son of God was made just like me, how did He do it?  How were all theses feats accomplished?  The answer is faith.  Faith that the Father will do whatever needed to be done, and oh what a faith it was!  The apostles were sent out on a limited commission with the instructions to heal and cast out demons and preach the kingdom of heaven at hand, yet there was one demon possessed boy they could not heal (Matt 17:14ff.).  When asked by His disciples about their inability to heal the boy, Jesus said that it was because of the littleness of their faith.

Why is this of great importance you may ask?  Jesus, the Son of God, became flesh like you and me was susceptible to temptation (Matthew 4) that leads to sin yet was without sin (Hebrews 4:15).  We can imitate Christ!  We can overcome temptation…We don’t have to succumb to the traps of the evil one.  Call on the strength of Jesus to persevere when faced with diverse trials.  If you know Jesus, and trust Him, you can do it with His help!  After all, He did it!
