The past weeks I have been pondering two statements of Jesus wondering how to get His message to those in need.  To many they are rather well known passages yet their actions do not reflect their awareness of their importance.  The first is Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide, and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter by it.  For the gate is small, and the way is narrow that leads to life, and few are those who find it.” (NASB)  The second is a portion of a passage that says “seek and you shall find”

I am reminded of a game we have all played as children and you have probably watched yours and others children play.  The game is called hide and seek.  What I don’t remember happening as a child I have seen as an observer.  Now and then a child loses interest in the game and no longer actively searches for those in hiding.  Most often they will wander around half-heartedly or they will find something else to bide their time, all the while the other children await the one who is supposed to be seeking them.

As I reflect on the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:14, I can’t help but focus on the last part of what He said in that “few are those who find it.”  Jesus is telling us in very plain language first, that many will be lost and only a few will find salvation.  The FEW will find it because they are actively seeking it!  A sobering thought to those wanting an eternal home in Heaven! 

Now ask yourself, this question.  How active is your search for the “way to life”?  Are you like the child who is excited by the prospect of finding their playmates?  Or have you lost interest in the pursuit, seeking to bide your time with the other interests of this life.  God is waiting for us to find Him; in fact, He has made it as easy as He could possibly have.  He is not even hiding!
