No matter how well you prepare, it is still a shock when you hear the news that a loved one is facing a health issue that doctors call “terminal”.  In reality, life itself is a “terminal” condition, with the end and date usually unknown.  We cannot live forever here, nor should we really want to since we are intended to live in God’s presence.  For those who are abiding in the Word of God this type of news becomes a bit easier for several reasons and this past week gave some of us cause to review a few ‘one another’ passages that help us accept life’s greatest trials.  Paul tells us to be devoted to one another, preferring one another in honor (Romans 12:10).  In his first letter to the Thessalonians, Paul tells us to comfort one another, while James tells us in 5:17 to pray for one another…

What God is trying to tell us through His inspired word is that we need each other and I believe the sooner we realize this, the sooner we will realize blessings God is so ready to shower on us.  Ask yourself right now, do you prefer brothers or sisters in Christ over those in the world?  Do you give them this honor?  When was the last time you prayed for someone in need of God’s comfort, strength, or courage?  When did you last comfort someone with an embrace, hold their hand, or even just with your presence?  Let’s not forget that Paul’s encouragement to comfort specifically dealt with the hope we have in Christ.  When did you last talk with one another about the heavenly future Christians have with God.  This passage in 1 Thessalonians, chapter 4, deals with the second coming of Christ regarding those who have died in Christ and those who remain and is most often used at funerals.  Truly this is a time where comfort is needed, but it’s not the only time.  Let us be more aware of God’s “one another” designs for relationships of His children, you’ll be thankful and blessed if you do!
